Monday October 6th 2008

On Monday all teams were welcomed by the IACC (International Arbitration and Control Commission) for the accreditations of the players and officials at the main building of the Host University BME. The first day of the Games was concluded with the Opening Ceremony at the Host University where the Rector of the Host University, Dr. Péceli Gábor, and IFIUS founder, Peter Verboven, welcomed all students and officials. Furthermore a student, Elisabeth Vinken (University of Antwerp), and a referee, Janos Ring (Hungarian Football Federation), made an official oath to participate in the Games according the IFIUS rules and fair play guidelines. Finally, IFIUS President, Dr. B. Ghadimi, officially opened the Games.

Budapest welcomed the third day of the different competitions with some exiting matches as places for the final matches were at stake. In the evening, at the Host University, the 10th IFIUS General Assembly was organized, followed by a reception with walking dinner offered by the BME Student Union. Later that night, the IFIUS World Cup Party welcomed more than 1.500 students; Budapest 2008 participants but also local students.
 
 
 
Friday October 10th 2008
 
The last day of the Games … the Finals! After the finals, Honouring Ceremonies per sport celebrated the 2008 Champions. Later that day, again at the Host University, the Closing Ceremony welcomed the Secretary General of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, Mr. Kamuti Jeno, who thanked IFIUS for the Budapest 2008 Games. Also V. Pal, Vice President of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (HUSF) thanked IFIUS on behalf of the HUSF President and Secretary General, Dr. R. Frenkl and H. Czaba, for the swift cooperation.
 
After these warm words, Zoltan Dibo, Chairman of the Budapest 2008 Organizing Committee handed over the IFIUS flag to IFIUS President Ghadimi who passed the IFIUS flag to the Minister of Sport of the Italian Region of Lombardy, Dr. Pier Gianni Prosperini, officially introducing the start of the preparations for the Milan 2009 Games. At the end of the Ceremony, IFIUS founder and Vice President Peter Verboven and IFIUS President Dr. Ghadimi handed over honouring trophies to all parties involved in the 10th World Interuniversity Games. The Games were finalized as IFIUS President, Dr. Ghadimi, officially closed the Games. The Closing Ceremony was followed by a reception with walking dinner offered by the BME Student Union.
